Personally I find it hard to absolutely like all the content from any single creator. For instance, I really enjoy your To Back or Not to Back content, many of your preview and review content but I personally do not find any value in the Games Leaving My Collection videos.

Thanks for the review. How do you feel about the game a year later? Did you get the chance to play it more? I find it very interesting for an easy to learn hard to master type of game, and of course it looks gorgeous!

I am intrigued by Rove, Regicide Legacy and the hard-to-pronounce Mich in the Downgeon...hard to say if I am ready for another dungeon crawler after just finishing Frosthaven in the next time though.

Cormac is the series, the Hero featured. The Other Side of Midnight is the specific board game. For people keen: the Midnight is all-in game play, acrylic standees (not minis), and gives you a ton of content! The £40 game has at least as much gameplay as the base game of Sword & Sorcery, Heroquest, Bloodborne and many other titles! CMONs version of Heman vs Battlegrounds - room for both in a collection? Look very similar skirmish type games while CMONs can be coop solo and 1-many - it’s best as controller vs heroes.

Ya for Alex doing a crockinole review in the future. Crockinole boards are very expensive. However, if you know you want a board you should 100% save up for a Tracey board. Jeremy is a friend of mine for sure so take that bias for what it is but, he also makes the boards used for the world championships and most of the major competitions in the US and Canada. His boards are all handmade and he is a small family run business. Ive played on both boards and there is no comparison in my opinion. You get what you pay for and if you have been wanting a board for a while you probably should get the tracey board. Having said all that, i love mayday sleeves and several of their games. Im glad mayday is working to spread Crockinole love around the world. Im not a fan of these boards at all but once you have played on a great board, you get spoiled and an 80% board just doesn't cut it for me.

Small clarification on the Thinning Veil Cormac... game: the Midnight pledge (200 GBP with minis printed) does NOT provide the gameplay content, it's printed minis ONLY. In order to get the all in game AND printed minis, you need to get the Midnight pledge (100 GBP) AND the Architect pledge (200 GBP) so it's 300 GBP total. The top most expensive (painted) pledges are also limited to 5 (only 5 of each will be produced).

so many of the games nowadays dont need kickstarter. the companies just missuse the plattform to get production payed in advance and even more. most of these games would have come to the shops anyways for a cheaper price. its exactly this and the constant delayes and shipping cost explosion what makes crowdfunding a mess these days. im so happy i stopped it and i wont ever again do another game with crowdfunding. i simply wait for retail and pay far less. this ship is sunken... pun intended

I think The 7 Seas has so few backers because their shipping to the US is prohibitive. They have announced that they are looking for a shipping partner for the US so it is possible the shipping may drop before the campaign ends.

This is why I don't care to become a full time board game reviewer. Whenever I think about trying to grow, it ends up being making stuff that I don't want to make. So I'm happy making things I want to make, and I've been kinda trying to keep it at least a little consistent for the algorithm 😅 But I also now have 4 different RUclips channels because of making things I want to make 😆

Thanks for another great video Alex! Is the print too small in person? Also is it hard to look across the table and be able to understand what other players are doing? Are all the factions so different that it's hard to remember what each player can do?

Heh, I remember when you trashed Imperium (maybe trashed is a strong word, but it was an unusually low score for you) and Nigel Buckle wrote in to say he understood. I thought that was pretty big of him.

Being a content creator/reviewer is not necessarily equivalent to payment and full/part-time job. I think it would be more accurate to narrow the focus of this video to "professional/full-time content creator".

Can you make a video about mean games? maybe another about chill ones? I feel like it's quite relevant to many people who prefer one or the other play style :)

The fact that you can do what you love and get paid is rarity in this world. I appreciate your update videos on your game rankings. Videos about your 'All time favorite games' is okay but it's generally the same each time so updates to other good games that may helps me focus my radar as someone who is limited on time wants to know what is holding a professional gamers attention. I appreciated that you put out any content on Sand at all! In my opinion, as long as creators, like yourself, are prefacing their thoughts, reviews, etc with what they're experience with the game was (multiple plays, only at 2 players, single play), I can still take away valuable information and interpret it on my own. Any third party review or opinion on a game that I'm interested in is useful to me to help validate or question my interest into a game. So thank you (also super stoked about BUS, thanks for the news)

Lots of good points here. At the end of the day, reminding yourself of why you're playing games in the first place is key. Keep making great content!

Something I have just realised with your comments. Watching content creators also tends me towards trying new games and not playing my existing ones. A mindset I need to address.

I couldn't do it for so many reasons. Don't have the talent, don't have the skills, don't have the drive to develop the talent or skills. However the biggest part of it is I'm not going to play games I'm not interested in. I'll bend this rule slightly for fiends and family but otherwise hard pass. I'm also strongly against the current drive to try to monetize anything you enjoy which is the quickest way to turn your hobbies into an anchor around your neck.

Have you thought about making game tutorials. I think there's a lack of that on you tube. Especially the kickstarter gamefound games. For instance primal or tainted grail.

Depending on the depth, you can totally form an opinion after one play. I bought the Magic the Gathering boardgame (something Dominaria something). After one playthrough, I felt I saw everything it had to offer. It's a game I'd teach my kids to play before I teach them Catan.

I agree with all of this. Being a tiny creator I am interested in how you kept going when you were small and were getting no return on your investment of time. I am working in a slightly different video model but am still easily spending 40 hours a week shooting scripting and mostly editing. When I am deep in the hole of grinding a video out I often ask why I am doing it. I certainly would prefer to do it over my day job but that is not likely anytime soon and have only spent money in pursuit of this. I love playing games and making videos about them it’s just such a time suck with personal sacrifices and no compensation that it becomes hard to justify taking the time away from my family.

J from 3 Minute Board Games talked about the burn out from constantly playing new games in his recent "10 Games You Can Play Forever" video. Really good watch for both content creators and regular gamers as well who might be feeling a bit of burn out from the unending games churn. The only channels I can think of that aren't always looking at new games are ones focussing on the proper lifestyle games, mostly the LCGs. But even then it's a mix of old content with the new expansions/packs, and what's coming up.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic. As content consumers, I don't think we typically consider what creators have to work through in order to do what they do. You have always been ready to pull back the curtain, so to speak, and let us see what the reality of your job is like. The one thing that surprised me while watching this piece is that there was no mention of the time requirement and the potential pressure that puts on family life. I am not trying to get personal, and you may have figured out how to find a place of contented balance, but I can only imagine that you invest more hours per week in your work than most people do in their "regular" jobs and that potentially means that you are away from family when you wish you didn't have to be.

I just recently decided to dip my toe into the pool of content creation. The worst part, by far, is that 50% + of my hobby time is now spent on video production (which isn't my hobby). Very cool video, as usual, Alex!
